MENOG 19 Meeting & Peering Forum comes to Beirut

What is MENOG?

The Middle East Network Operators Group Meeting & Peering Forum (MENOG19) will be held in Beirut on 3 and 4 April 2019. One of the biggest gatherings of network operators, content providers and data centres in the region, MENOG 19 will bring together experts from across the Middle East and all over the world.

Co-hosted by the OGERO, ISOC Lebanon chapter and the American University of Beirut (AUB), this two-day event will also discuss issues connected to routing, domain name systems, IPv6 deployment, and IXP development.

Who should attend?

The event is open to the entire technical community, from Internet service providers, mobile operators, and content, cloud, infrastructure service providers. The meetings also cover a large range of topics interesting to government representatives, academics and key business decision makers.

What is on the agenda?

MENOG meetings always include a mix of plenary presentations, meetings, tutorials and networking events. We encourage the sharing of expertise, best-practices and discussions on cooperation within the region.

It’s recently become clear that the uptake of peering and interconnection in the Middle East has been stagnating. Less than half of the countries in the Middle East have a functioning Internet Exchange Point (IXP), and many of the existing IXPs are far from reaching their full market potential. Research also shows that many operators still send domestic traffic to be exchanged out of the region.

This is why the MENOG team has decided to formally establish itself as the peering forum for the region by dedicating more time for the issues of peering, interconnection and IXP development.

How is MENOG different?

MENOG enables open discussion and sharing of knowledge between operators, experts, researchers, governments and academia. The new meeting format aims to help connect the infrastructure, service, and content providers with policymakers to identify and discuss ways to improve network interconnection.

With presentations, meetings and tutorials, and social events, MENOG provides attendees with access to industry insights, trends and excellent networking opportunities.

How can I attend?

MENOG is open for anyone to attend, and attendance is free of charge.

If you cannot attend in person, you can still participate. We will be setting up a number of remote hubs for participants throughout the region. All presentations are filmed and archived, so if you miss a talk, you can still view it later.
